Brief History

Carmelite followers got this name from the name of Mount Carmel located in the Holy Land of Israel. These were the people who were living on this mountain since ancient times, their life was being spent in solitude and prayer. In the Second Book of Kings in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible, it is said about the Prophet Elijah that “The Prophet Elijah was a man in whose heart the fire of love for God always burned.

Prophet Elijah reached the supreme presence of the Lord by adopting the principle of solitude and prayer on Mount Carmel, where he adopted the words of the Lord and taught people to believe in the true God. The present Carmel family started from this Mount Carmel family. The icon of the Carmel family is Mother Mary, the mother of Lord Jesus Christ. She always provides safety and protection to the Carmelite children under her canopy.

Rise of the Carmel family in India. It occurred on 3 February 1867 in Kunumaon, Kerala province of India, by Saint Chavara and Reverend Father Leopold. Today this organization is spread almost all over the world. About 6500 Nuns are doing human service work with full readiness and dedication in major countries. It is a matter of joy that this institute is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its establishment this year. It is a matter of great good fortune that this organization is also in Indore city. In July 1991  a school was established in the name of Carmel Convent H. S. School. This school was established in an environment where there were no other higher education institutions. Children of rural environments were being deprived of modern education and knowledge of English. To provide them with value-based and modern education, CMC. The Sisters started classes in Nursery and K.G with 20 children at Christ Bhavan in Asravad. Sr. Jyosina Manager, Sr. Isbel Headmistress, Sr. Daisy became the leader of the school as a teacher. By the end of the year, 67 students had been admitted to the school. Indore Bishop Swami George Anathil S.V. D. and Mother Krishantha, a social professional from Kerala, provided a solution to the financial problems faced in the construction of the school building and the school shifted to its building in 1993.

In the year 1992-93, Sr. Lourde Mary became the principal. The next successful tenure was that of Sr. Nirmala, and then Sr. Lisbeth took over the tenure of one year. During Sr. Isabel’s creative seven-year tenure, the school’s discipline, personality development, moral values, and scientific enlightenment reached its peak. The work of overall development of students and linking education with modern technology was done during the tenure of Sr. Johncy. Sr. Tessy took the school forward with her energetic work style. Sr. Keerthana got C.B.S.E status from the Madhya Pradesh Education Board. C.B.S.E worked on bringing it into the education board. M.P. The school associated with the education board became an example of best education when it provided 100% results in class 10th and 12th examinations for 5 consecutive years and M.P. Received the certificate of best school from the government CBSE. The school is also performing its best in the education sector. In 2011, a pre-primary school was established in Datoda village. In the future, this school will also have its building.

At present Sr. Mary is the principal and the progress journey of Carmel continues. Today, when the school is going to complete 25 years of its establishment, the Carmel family is humbly but proudly saying that the journey that started with 20 students has reached 1990 students. The students who graduated from here are serving in the Indian Army and the medical world. So, some students are making India proud in foreign countries also.

In this journey of 25 years, we made our best efforts to bring the best life values into the lives of the students. We celebrated this year as the Year of Mercy. 15 girls from poor families were selected. Now they are being given free education in class nursery. A teacher has also been appointed for this work. This free education will continue after class 2nd depending on their mental enlightenment.

May God always keep his merciful eye on this unique progress of the school so that Carmel always flourishes with its values of life.

We also pay tribute to our President Sisters. Sr. Jossina, Sr. Sanitas, Sr. Mary Livina, Sr. Sajeeva, Sr. Tesly and Sr. Roslin for their guidance and encouragement which became the basis of this development.
